The ingenuity of Ba Zhen Tang (Eight precious decoction) is that it consists of two ancient Chinese herbal formulas – Si Wu Tang (Four Agents Decoction) and Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction).
Si Wu Tang is known as The First Famous Formula for Replenishing Blood, which has the best treatment effect for conditions due to Yin blood deficiency. And Si Jun Zi Tang mainly restores the function of spleen-stomach to promote the circulation of blood-qi. The combination brings out the best in each other and appropriate for more severe conditions.
Ba Zhen Tang is commonly used for blood-qi deficiency realted issues, such as pale complexion, palpitation, inappetence, shortness of breath, laziness to speak, tired limbs, dizziness.
Ba Zhen Tang is also commonly used for chronic diseases like anemia, persistent hepatitis, neurasthenia, and in gynecopathy like irregular menstruation, retarded growth of fetus, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, and habitual abortion. In addition, it is also suitable for excessive bleeding in trauma and long-term ulcer as long as the pathogenesis is qi-blood deficiency.
Traditionally use food materials of the chicken or pork ribs to emphasize the blood circulation of this soup.
Ingredients:
• Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis)
• Shou Di Huang (Rehmannia glutinosa)
• Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum wallichii)
• Bai Shao (Paeonia lactiflora)
• Dang Shen (Codonopsis pilosula)
• Fu Ling (Poria cocos)
• Bai Zhu (Atractylodes macrocephala)
• Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
Cooking Method:
• Boiled water, put the whole chicken or pork ribs in boiled water, remove the turbid on the surface. Change water if needed. This step is to clean the blood from the chicken.
• Bring the stock to boiled, put all the herbs and the chicken/pork ribs togather, bring up to big flame until boiled again. When boiled, turn to small flame, cook for another 45 minutes, until the ingredients become tender.
• Seasoning with some salt, ginger and a few drops of rice wine.
Notes:
• Leave the herbs in the pot and do not eat the herbs. Enjoy the chicken/pork ribs and soup.
